Dear Friends and Readers …
I’m happy to announce that my new mystery, Speaking to the Unseen, is now available in hardcover or ebook from Amazon, BarnesandNoble.com, or the publisher’s website at RoanWeatherford.com. This title is the third in a series featuring Chantalene Morrell, daughter of a Gypsy mother and redneck father. A trade paper edition is due out in November 2024. Here’s a short teaser:
Chantalene is diagnosed with a flaw in her mitochondrial DNA, passed down through the maternal side of the family. Maximum life expectancy with this defect is 33 and she’s approaching 30. Her only relative is her great-grandmother, a Gypsy matriarch with a mole on her tongue and the gift of prophecy. Chantalene sets off to find her, and to find out what happened to her missing grandmother. If both of them are alive, perhaps she can defy the prognosis. She wants to marry her fiancé and have children, but not if she’ll die in a few years and leave them alone.
She finds Gamma Rose in a hospice, surrounded by old Gypsy women. At Gamma’s request, Chantalene takes her home to die. In her tiny cabin in the deep woods, Chantalene finds more questions than answers. Why won’t Gamma Rose identify the faces in old family photos? Why are the mountainous acres behind the house fenced off like a prison yard? And what secret does she share with the old Gypsy named Zabella who comes to visit?
The answers endanger Chantalene’s life and uncover a family she didn’t know she had.
